Prayers That Heal Emotions 

How much useless energy is spent digging for painful memories, when the real hunger is for loving affirmation that allows the hurt we cannot access with all our searching and willing, to come to the surface. The deeper reaches of our psyche won’t let go of the tightly clung to hurt, the deepest memories until confronted with love and nurture strong enough to replace the hurt. Then, the inward parts of us that clutch so tightly to pain begin to trust and let go. 

Prayer experiences feed deeper selves with affirmations, affirmations of God’s love, affirmations of the essential wholeness of each one of us. The prayer experiences instill hope. But not the shallow kind of hope that suggests we can avoid reality by thinking “nice” thoughts.  The prayer experiences bring hope by filling the inner recesses of our being with the central reality of faith – that we are created by a loving God who sent His Son to redeem us.  We are grasped by God’s affirmation. We experience His love at the very heart of things, a love that con not and will not let us go. An that love makes all things fresh and new. 

When we open our hearts wide to God’s caring, the deeper roots of our nature find the permanent soil of infinite love. We find in the cellar of our souls an ocean of infinite rest which gives meaning to our seemingly endless activities.  There is a place within where the seal is always calm and the boats are steady and Christian meditation takes our awareness to that place. The Kingdom of God, Jesus said, is within us. 

When we enter into depth prayer we are taken into the arms of a God who will never forsake us from His embrace. As we surrender ourselves to the power of another, to something greater than ourselves, a force is mobilized within that helps affirm our goodness and wholeness. 

Yet many of us fear this opening to love.  We know that as we relax our guard and let love in we will feel the hurts we spend so much energy trying not to feel, and we fear these feeling will overwhelm us. However the truth is, when our guard relaxes because love has touched us, it goes down at just the right pace. Our pain didn’t come in an instant, our healing doesn’t come in an instant.  Real and lasting healing resembles the gentle and gradual changing of seasons, rather than an overpowering summer and thunderstorm. 

We may never discover the origin of some of our pain, and that’s okay. We don’t always need to know where it came from to let go of it.  Romans 8 tells us that when we do not know how to pray the Spirit prays through us with sighs too deep for words. Each of us is a fathom less depth and only God can know us fully.  In meditation  we give the Holy Spirit permission to search those depths. As healing unfolds, we will find at times a hurt is welling up inside of us and we don’t know why.  When that happens, we can grieve and weep and let go of our grip. This is what Paul meant by sighs too deep for words. 

A MEDITATION ON THE FATHER  

I am the One everyone seems to fear. This is understandable because of the many stories in Scripture where I was the initiator of punishment. You have to understand that Scripture was written by people such as you who were at a different generational stage of development in the history of humanity.  They were like little children who would reach out to put their hands in fire and could only be changed by chastisement. 

I have not changed My Essence even though the Old Testament of Scripture paints Me as punitive.  I am Wisdom revealed in the hearts of those who find their way to Me through the Love of My Son as promulgated in them by the Power of Our Mutual Love – The Most Holy Spirit. 

If you were a scriptural scholar, you would understand this.  Alas! Scriptural scholars are few and far between.  Thus you have to take My Word that I am not the punitive, fearful Person you may conceive Me to be. 

I am Love.  I am the same Love that My Son Jesus is.  I am the same Love that dwells in you in the Person of Our Most Holy Spirit.  I interact within you through the Unity in Love that is Life Eternal. 

I will leave the description of Myself to another forum, viz., My Letters in your collection of letters. They are signed by Me and certainly paint quite a different picture of Me than the horrible, completely erroneous view of Me that has been passed down to you through the ages.

Trust what I am about to do in you. Know that I am with you in all that you do. I touch you and I make you quite different than before. I open your eyes to the wonder that is My Love within you Thus I tell you to be still. Know I am your God. Know that I go before you in all things. Know that I protect you from harm.

Trust is not your strong suit. You believe that you are in charge of just about everything in your life. You are learning that this is not so. I manage to have My Say in what you do as well. Thus learning takes place on a daily basis. You propose what you want to do for Me. I decide if I want your things to succeed. That’s hard for you to accept. You assume that if you work at it, My Will is being done. In a sense you are right. However, you have to learn to allow Me to decide what I wish to bless. Are We at an impasse? I don’t think so. There is just a gap in the road between your will and My Will. It gets resolved gently. It gets smoothed over lovingly.

My friend, there is no problem that We cannot resolve together. You know this. I know this. Thus, when you worry, remember who is truly in charge of everything. Then everything will be all right. 

  VENTING

I know how frustrated you are. I hear your inner venting. I know you don’t see any correlation between these words and life in your world. That’s just the way it is sometimes when you walk with Me. There seems to be no correlation between what I say and what happens in your life daily. Yet I tell you to press on despite what you think or feel. You will see that what I say in you is indeed real.

I know how upsetting this is to you. You are just tired of struggling to exist in your world while seeking to follow what I say in you daily each morning. You say you feel used by Me. You say that you are so insignificant. You question why anyone would want to read these words or even believe them. You point out that they crucified My Son. So why would anyone want to read these words or even believe their source. You feel as though I have set you up. You proclaim that I have taken advantage of your devotion to Me. You say that you work so hard for Me with little or nothing to show for it.

I understand your frustration and anger. You want action from Me. You say. If you are truly God and are all powerful, do something. Make a difference in this world. Now you are frightened for saying such things. Be not afraid. You are only expressing what so many others feel.

I tell you now that I have been acting in you and in many others. You do not see what I do in others. You know what I do in you. Let Me say this. These words have an impact on you. What they do in others remains to be seen. You do not know what I do behind the scenes in others. You only know what I do in you.

Oh I know I frustrate the hell out of you. That’s exactly what I do in you. I squeeze hell out of you daily. I then fill you up with more and more of Me. This is not just a play on words. This is Truth.

I rid you of your controlling nature. I modify it. I tone it down. If you promise not to get to upset with My words, I tell you. I humble you. I disinfect you. I rid you of your false human pride. Be thankful that I do as I do in you.

Let Me add. Yes, I use you. Yes, I challenge you to press on. Yes, I do as I wish in you. Yes, I do not promise you a rose garden. Yes, I do not reveal My Plan for you or for humanity.

I just tell you to continue doing what you do each day. Come to Me. Write what I say in you. Expect nothing more than these “beautiful” words in you. TrustMe. Accept that I know what I do.  Will you do this for Me even if I frustrate the “hell” out of you? Thank you. I knew that you would.

 I realize that frustrations build up in you daily. I see the troubles you have in your family life. I see every concern of your heart. I promise you that even though you do not see positive outcomes or even My involvement in their resolution, I am involved. I am at work in resolving these problems.

I hope you feel a little better. I know it helps to vent. If you think you are frustrated, how do you think I feel?

AFTER ALL
YOU ARE ONLY HUMAN

Thus We begin anew. I lift you out of the debris of your human frustration. We are in accord. You will come to Me daily. I will come to you. I will speak. You will write what I say. You accept the frustrating circumstances in your life. You come to Me despite your inner strife.

I accept the frustrations of life in the world of temporary. I save those that come to Me for comfort and solace. I recognize the difficulties that they face. I simply clear them away in our brief meetings.

 We meet in the Sacred Space of Inner Assent to My Silent Love. That’s all I ask of any friend. I touch you with My Words. I touch others in many other ways. I do as I do in you because that is My Will for you. I do not tell you what I do in others. Frankly, that is none of your business. You accept all of this reluctantly yet fervently. You know Who I am.

 My friend! I am so pleased with you. I am pleased with those who read these words. Their frustration is similar to yours. They have trouble correlating My Words with the events in their lives too. Yet, they do as you do. They come to Me in their way daily. They read these words that I share in you. They relate to your frustration too. They feel what you do. Yet, like you, they know Who speaks in these words. They listen even though it seems absurd. They are as touched by these words as are you. Somehow, just being here makes sense to them and to you.

 I want to stop for now. You have work for Me to do today. I am so glad We had a chance to talk. It’s good for you to let your hair down with Me once in a while.

 Look at Job. He let Me have it. So did many other friends. Look at St. Teresa. “No wonder you have so few friends!” After all, you are only human. So are they.  

Well! Get on with your day. Let Me have My Way. I will anyway. (I could not resist adding that.)
